As I have never been to one of these events, and at the risk of sounding n00b-ish, how is the seating sorted out???

Is it like a first come first served type thing, or are positions pre-allocated???

I ask this as I have team mates that I would like to sit near if at all possible...

SlicelikeaninJa: You can sit wherever you like..usually people stroll in during the morning and reserve chairs for their mates if they are coming later...Only table that is pre-occupied would be the admin table for obvious reasons....

Obvious reasons being... they've got no mates to sit with...

(You will usually find me near them... rather pathetic really... )
